These puppets were for my junior thesis film at Uarts – Snyder & Newton. This was my second attempt at building puppets with Smooth On’s foam rubber.
The hands were particularly tricky. I couldn’t get a good pour into the fingers – no matter what there was always airbubbles gunking up the hands. I build them up using cotton and tissue and liquid latex, giving them a very rough texture. It kind of works within the aged, raggedy aesthetic of the film… but overall I think it makes the puppets look a bit too amateur.
