I did this drawing for Holy Week 2011. Based off of my favorite symbol, the caduceus, a mystical ladder that connects heaven to earth. The skull mountain is the cold innate mud that our genetic recipe emerged from. The serpents are the double helix of our DNA, the powerful lattice that pulled us up like magic out of the dirt. The cross is the clear path to a higher state of being while the rungs of the snake’s ladder are the slippery and dangerous steps of evolution; both ultimately leading us to the same conclusion – the dove. The dove perches confidently, unafraid and radiating. Though snakes threaten to devour its glory, it is unmoving, knowing it cannot be undone.
